Wanganui Education Board.
The Education Board met yesterday. The following members were present: —Messrs &. S. Bridge (chairman), J. W Baker, Bobbins, P. M. Spurdle, B. A. Adams, Fred. Pirani, F. Y. Lethbridge. and Rev, J. lloss. Dr Siaytb forwaided bia resignation as Chief Inspector owing to his being appointed principal of tho Victorian Teachers' Training Collcgfl. The Board decided to offer the position to Mr W. Gray, of the Palmcrston North District High School., on the motion of Mr Pirani, seconded by Mr Bobbins, provided suitable arrangements can be made for the carrying on of the College-street and District High Schools. A. Matheson, of Ktlvin Grove, and I*. Mathoaon, of ackoytown, forwarded their resignations o( head teachersbips owing to their going to South Africa. — The resignations were accepted with regret. Other resignations accepted : —Annie Goodland, Carnarvon school, owing to having received a southern appointment; Annie Garter, Otakeho, owing to having received an appointment in the Auck land district; Miss A. Gr Hogg, Glen Nevis ; James Smith, Mount View. The following appointments were made :— 3. 0. ClaytoD, Okoia ; Walters, Eakaramea; Miss Middlemiss, Waipura; assistant at Hawera, Miss Aria ; Parewanui, Miss McNicoll; Awahou, W. J. Watts ; third assistant at Collegestreet, Miss Oakley ; Karewarewa, Miss MoNicoll ; Opatn, B. Edwards. The Selection Committee's report, making tbe following recommendations, was adopted : Whakmara, bead teachorship, A. Everiss ; College-street, Miss Gatton ; Otukeho, E. Whittington ; Mount View, R v Williamson. Lcauo ot absence was granted to Miss E. Kelly and H. A. Oakley. The Government wrote recognising the Paltnerston continuation classes, and the Col'ege-street school classes. It was decided to instruct tbe Building Committee to invite tenders fur tbe erection of a District' High School and Technical School at Palmerston. It was decided to instruot the teachers not to remove the names of pupiln from the school rolls unless they have left the district or are attending another school. Cash statement — General aocount, credit, £1138 lls 3d. Building account: ordinary, credit, £827 12s 4d; special credit, £1716 16a lOd. Technical schools: Wanganui, dr., £3 lls 9d; Palmerston North, dr., £17 4s; Hawera, dr., £27 6s Id ; Country carving, cr., £82 9s 3d. At a meeting of the Wanganui Girls' College of Governors, this morning, the resignation of Miss Gufr, gymnastic instructress,-.was accepted, and it was decided to advertise for a successor.
