The Hockey Association 'have agreed to the suggestions made by the P.N. Football Club, re tho Show grounds on Tuesday noxt. The hockey match will take place at 1 p.m., and "the t iootball match, Poneko y. Palmerston Club at 2.30 p.m.

The match, Huntervillo v. Sandon, was played at tun latter place on Wednesday and resulted in a victory for the Homo team by Ito nil. Tiie' visitors speak highly of their treatment, and considering that they coach 62 miles for tho match, they must havo been well looked after.

Mr A. C. Norris, Chairman of the Referees' Association, sends tho Post the following memo :—ln your cautoinporary this morning there appears a paragraph referring to an enquiry to be made to the local Branch of the Referees' Association from the Palmerston North Club, ns to whether a kick for goal could place the ball "on tho ball on the ground before taking the kick. Tho writer states that ■' it is the ' custom' of Wellington referees to allow tho placo-kieker to ' pkco ' the ball as an instruction to his 'placer' of how the Uieker desires tho ball to bo pliscod, but ufter that the 'placer • must pick up the ball from the ground and place it anew for the kicker." I take the earliest opportunity of contradicting such a statement, bearing as it does on ono of the most important laws of the game. It is not tho " custom "of Wollington referees to act as indicated. On the contrary, they rule according to law, vis , that on "no account" must a kicker " plr.ee " tho bail.
