; - rprf.i AHHOciution.) CiißisTcnußcn, May 29, At t-bo annual meeting of tho C.J.C , tho President, Sir G. Clifford, stated that the club is in a very satisfactory condition. Ho deprecated the decadence of racing in small centres in Canterbury, and he suggested that tho Metropolitan Club should encournge the managers of small meetings to improve the sport. He also drew a comparison between the present day and the time when Sir Modred mid Tnsinan won their laurels. Mr 'P. Ti'schemaker spoke strongly against the tendency to introduce short distance races, and said it bad tho effect of deteriorating horses, as thoso that ran shoit distance racoa wero no "ami for anything else. Th« commiitoo of the club has hem requested to c-.ns.idcr the advisability of increasing tho number of long distance races, and lessoning the short distance ones during the coming season. -
