Ruapchu, tho Torpedo gelding, racing with success on this coast- a few seasons back, was recently presented to Mr W. Lemon, of Rangitikci Line, by Mr D* Riddiford, the horse having " become' such a confirmed roarer that tho latter considered his racing career had terminated. At Mr Lemon's request, ivlr Robinson, Government Veterinaiy Surgeon, stationed in Falmewlon, operated on tho horao and inserted a plated tube in his throat. Tho result has boon most successful, tho gelding is able to gallop without tho least distress, and it is Mr Lemon's intention to put him in work in the spring. Mr D. Rnick, who has roeentlv entered the iMukfi of breeders of thoroughbred clruughl stock in no uncertain ni;inner,li;is also decided to devote a portion of hi* time and attention to blood .stock. "With this purpose in view he h.-is secured the services of the St. Legcr-Mnskorina sire Xapakiirn, and id securing ji stallion through whose veins courses such a combination of racing blood lie lias obtained one oE the first essentials of ultimate success. On both sides Papakura, who was bred by Mr W. Wal4-s of Pupakura, traces back (0 worldrenowned sires and dams. St. Leger (imp), being by Doneaster-Allanlis, and Muskerina by Musket (imp.) from Hipporma. In addition to his blue blood lapakura gave every promise of bein" a successful racehorse till an untimely accident terminated his career. He started twice at the Tarauaki mcetin.' in ISS/ and ivon the Flying Handicap and the Ladies' Purse in excellent style Shortly after he overreached himself while galloping and inflicted an injury to las near fetlock, which effectually precluded training preparations. Papaknra who will be at the service of local breeders next season, stands 10 hands Me is a very eyon-tempered iior.se and is a perfect representation of the big, little horse. He has some promising yount; stock coming on, oDe in particular a Ully, rising three years, from Undine being most highly spoken of by competent 3 ndKe*. She is at present in charge of \V. Homos, at Bulls, and will bo seen out next season. With half a chance Papakura should be able to make his mark in the racing world in a few'sepsons and breeders are to be congratulated on having such a highly-bred siro p.aced at their disposal.
