MANAWATU BREEDERS.

The success of the Manawatu breeders in Hie various classes at the Carterton Show, more especially coming after ihe honors received in Hawke's Bay a short while before, points to the fact that we have farmers iv our midst who are not only thoroughly acquainted with the ucthods of breeding first class stocb but know how to get them properly fit for exhibition. . In point of numbers the exhibitors-from this district to outside shows becomes larger every yean and it will not be a great length of time before the Manawatu will be regarded in other parts of the colony as a district from which to purchasehigh-class stock for breeding purposes. Mr S.R.Lancaster, of Fitzherbert, was very successful in Southdowns and English Leicesters, taking sis first prizes and championship. 'In Shorthorns Messrs McHardy Bros, had a' formidable rival in Archdeacon Williams, but nevertheless secured several prizes. Mr S. fStanden, whose name had been omitted from our report yesterday, took eight Ayrshire cattle through to the Carterton Show, meeting strong competition from Messrs Hyle, Scales, Eagle, Smith, &c, and he was successful in getting four firsts, two seconds, one third, and a r.h.c. He also'carried off the two cham. pionships with his bull " Master Ayrshire Jack of Ayrshire Park" and "Trixy," both of which obtained similar honors at Hawke's Bay. The New Zealand Times stated that the champion Ayrshire cow "Trixy " would hold her own on any show ground in the world, being a beautiful little animal and a typical dairy cow. In the heifer class, 3yrs and under, in milk, Mr Standen's cross-bred heifer "Flower," by " Master Ayrshire Jack," secured first honors, being four lbs. weight in adyance of any other competitor. In pigs, Mr Jarvis, of Rongotea, almost scooped the pool.
