Auckland, November 1. A fire occurred in a room at the Commercial Hotel, Whangarei. Two occupants had to leap from a window, one being cut about the legs and arms. The fire, was confined to the room in which it originated: .
. - Waimate, November 1. The police' made a raid on an .accommodation " house occupied by ~\Y ■ Henery, of Waitald South, on Wednesday, and secured a quantity of whisky and beer. An information has been laid for sly-grog selling. Tho ease will come before Major Keddel, S.M., on Thursday.
Christchurch, November 1. The hearing. of '.the . charge, against Kerry,- Freke and Mumford of causing the loss of the yacht Ariadne was heard to-day. The three accused were committed for trial, bail being allowed. - Wellington, November 1, G-allate Bros., oyster saloon proprietors, were to-day fined £50 by the Stipendiary Magistrate for selling liquor without a license to two probationary constables who had ordered stout and oysters at defendants' shop The Court considered that the wit nesses for the defence committed wilful perjury, and for that reason made the penalty severe, ■
