TRADING STAMPS,

" 'Ihe Government is bringing down a short amendment of the Trading Stamp. Abolition Aot of last session. That Aot, it has been found," while doing all that .was ..required ..of it in abolishing the Trading Stamp Company, does hot meet anew state, of things, that haa arisen sinco then—namely, the issue of trading stamps, by traders,..themselves. Last year's Act merely prohibits the issue of ; trading stamps "which entitles the holder . thereof to demand and receive from any Trading Stamp Company any money or goods." This is got over by traders issuing trading stamps whioh they themselves redeem, and it is with the object of putting a stop to that practice, and also, presumably, of increasing the demand.for Government discount stamps, that the amending Bill is being introduced. ... THE CONDUCT OF AUCTIONS. : At the request of a deputation of Wellington auctioneers the Minister for Lands has agreed to. endeavour to deiay the Land and Live Stock Auctions Bill for three weeks, or have it read a second time pro forma and referred to the Stock Committee, so that the auctioneers may have an opportunity to consult those in businessin other parts of the colony, and submit their reasons in writing aeainst ■the Bill. . . . ..; JOTTINGS. .. • "The hon. gentleman knows as much about good land as he does about good taste," Mr Hornsby on Mr "Wilted.
