g?,, t Qfgrtories made at his church without consulting the churohwardens ? The question arose at Dunmow Uounty Court in^an. 'action brought by Frederick Carter, one of the churchwardens of Little Cahfield, against the rector, the Rev. T. E..Hill. Mr Carter said that when he undertook the office of ohurchwarden it was agreed that all money collected in the church should be paid into the bank and payments made by ohequo signed by. the rector and one churchwarden. One Sunday evening a friend of the rector preached. The collection, which was made for the restoration fund, amounted to only 17s lOd. Out of this the rector took 6s 6d for the preacher's travelling expenses from London. The churchwardens resented this, and communicated with the bishop, who referred them to the court. The judge nonsuited Mr Carter on the ground that although churchwardens had a right in conjunction with the incumbent to the disposal of alms colleoted at Holy Communion, they were not entitled to interfere ypith the disposal of money colleoted at other times.
