RETURNING LEGISLATORS.

Sydney, January 26. Among the passengers by the Westralia, which sailed to-day, was the last contingent of New Zealand Parliamentary visitors, consisting of the Hon. J. Carroll, Messrs Graham, Jl. L. D. Fraser and Field, M.H.R.'s. v

Before the vessel left Sir W, Lyneand the Hon. E. W. O'Sullivan representing the Commonwealth and State Governments took a farewell of the visitors. Sir W. J. Lyne, proposing Mr Carroll's •health, thanked New Zealand for the honour conferred by sending representatives to tho federal celebrations. He hoped the day was not far distant when New Zealand would go hand in hand with the federation. I Mi-Carroll thanked Sir W. Lyne for the unbounded hospitality shown to the visitors. The kindness of the past few weeks had done more to foster a friendly .spirit between tho Commonwealth and New Zealand than anything else could have accomplished. PENNY POST. Melbourne, January 28. Mr Seddon had an interview with tho Postniaste.-General with reference to j delivery of New Zealand penny letter. The Pacific Cable Scheme, which Mr Seddon advocated in opposition to the Capo cable, was also discussed. Mr Gurr replied that he was strongly of opinion that tho Eastern Extension j Cable Co.'s ofler should be accepted at once, and he was disposed to favorably ; consider the delivery of New Zealand letters.
