A semi-official Japanese despatch states the Dowager-Empress and Emperor, and Ministers, escorted by 3000 troops from Kansu Province, started for Shonsi four days prior to the capture of Pekin.

The Japanese captured Pekin and rescued the Foreign missionaries and Chinese converts from imprisonment in the Palace.

The Japanese losses during the fighting at Pekin numbered 200. the Chinese 600, and the Americans 39.

The Chinese still throated Yangtsun London, August 23.

The Queen has congratulated MajorGeneral Giisalee for his daring advance on Pekin.
