Bowling Club Social.

There was a large attendance at the grand annual social and dance held at the Theatre Boyal last evening ia connection with the Bowling Club. Visitors included many from all parts of the distvict and from Feilding. The hall was beautifully decorated for the occasion, no efforts baying been spared by the committae in this particular. Nikau palms, fern fronds, wattlo blossoms and numerous evergreans entered largely into tho decorations and the general effect was considerably heightened by the festoons of flags which were suspended from the roof of the Theatre and the, numerous mirrors, appropriately draped, which were placed along the walls. The floor was in fine order and dancing was kept up with spirit until a longthy programme was exhausted. Prior to the dancing commencing, Mr L. Simmonds, President of the Club, opened the proceedings in a happy speech, during which he stated that; on behalf of the Committee he had much pleasure in extending a hearty welcome to everyone. He was, as President of the Club, proud of such a representative gathering. The committee had been untiring in their efforts to make the social one of the most successful in the annals of the Club. The programme included songs and recitations as well as dancing, and the President took the opportunty of thanking the ladies and gentlemen who would during the evening contribute to this portion of the programme. Thanks were also accorded the ladies who had provide:! the refreshments, which at a later hour those present would be called upon to pass judgment and no doubt show justice to. Thanks were extended to the ladies who had during the past season so generously dispensed refreshments on the green and he assured them that, as President of the Club, he would not have carried out his duties had it not been for the very kind assistance extended. The success which followod was greatly doe to the ladies. The President assurod the ladies of the appreciation shown by members in regard to the attendance of the ladies at the Green and the evident interest they showed in the game. At the request of the President hearty cheers were then given for the ladies. Proceeding, ho stated that prizes won during the past season would bo nresented to the winners. Eegret was expressed that owing to the weather some of the matches were not finished, and consequently some of the prizes would have to be withheld. The President concluded his remarks with a request that the National Anthem should be sung, and at the conclusion of that, the floor was handed over to the happy cate of the dancers.

During the evening songs were contributed by the Misses Drew (duet) and Eatchelar. and Messrs A. Bennett, Permain, and J. O. Batchelar, and Mr H. W. Haybittlc contributed a recitation in his usual happy style. Miss Mowlem sang " The Link Divine" with violin obligato by Cliff Mowlem. Later on the prizes wore distributed by the President, Messrs J. E. Russell and Cottle receiving a handsome pair of bowls each as winners of tho Handicap pairs and Mr T. Bastin, a similar prize as winner of the Champion singles. A supper of a most sumptous description was provided and following out the President's advice it indeed received full justice. Appropriate music Was contributed by an orchestra consisting .of Messrs Kirk (piano), P- Tombs (violin), Meyrick (cornet), Litchfield (clarionet) Wingate | (bass) and Jones (ti'Dnibdne). ~
