Arohbishop Redwood has accepted an invitation from Cardinal Moran to preach the opening sermon in connection with Australasian Catholic Congress in St. Mary's Cathedral, Sydney, early in September. His Grace will be accompanied by the Rev. Father Amsworth, Dsan Carew (of Greymouth), Archdeacon Devoy (of Wellington) and the Rev. Dr Pestre, head of the Marist Brothers' School in New Zealand. The last-named will be present at the opening of the Congress, and will afterwards leave for Lyons to attend the General Chapter of Marist Brothers in thas part of France.
June 24. . J. L. KimbelFs furniture factory in, Ghuznee Street, was burned down last night. The machinery, which belonged to the D.1.C., was insured for £280. The building is part of a block owned by J. Myers and insured in all for £1000. June 25.
At 9.30 last night a fire broke out in • the Albion Hotel, a twenty-five-roomed /hostelry situated on the corner of Courtenay place and Tory street, and within an hour the building was entirely gutted. Mr Larsed, who has been in the . oceupatiGn of the Albion Hotel for about three yeats, has the place on a six years' lease from' Messrs J. Staples and Co., brewers, who in turn have sixteen years to run of a forty-nine years' lease of the site.

The local branch of the Wairarapa Farmers' Co-operative Association was totally destroyed by fire at an early hour this morning. Nothing was saved. The building and stock were insured in the Phoenix office for £7550.
