EXPECTED GOOD NEWS.
(Per Press Association) Auckland, May 15. The Mayor is making arrangements in anticipation of the news of the relief of Mafeking. He intends inviting the citizens to observe a half-holiday on the day the news, arrives, and illuminate ■ their business premises in the evening. An evening parade of the garrison forcesis also suggested and a thanksgiving service in all the churches on the following Sunday. £ ' Mr George Foulds, M.H.E., has wir|d jj to the Defence Minister:—"l sngge|t w y that instructions be given to haye thVv fort guns fired immediately the news comes to hand of the relief of Mafeking, whether night or day. Excitement is ', growing here." ---i Christchukch, May 15. At a meeting of citizens to-night it was decided that business people should ; be asked to observe a half-holiday when news comes to hand of the relief of Mafeking ; that a mass meeting, at which addresses should be delivered, be held " in Cathedral Square ; and that a bonfire be lit in Hagley Park, where a display I of fireworks be given.
