Presentation.

Last evening a very pleasant function took place at the practice of the Orchestral Society, when the members availed themselves of the opportunity to present Mr F. Hunn, their late secretary, with an illuminated address, in recognition of the great services he has rendered to the Society during his term of office. The presentation was made by Mr J. G. Scott, President of the Society, who referred to the energy and courtesy shown by Mr Hunn in the discharge of his duties and pointed out how much the success of the Society was dependent upon the capacity of the secretary. Mr Scott also revived some early reminisences of how he taught Mr Hunn the mysterious pronunciation of the Scottish tongue when he was rehearsing his first Scotch song. He then handed Mr Hunn the handsomely illuminated address, saying that wherever he might go he would always carry with him the good wisfies of the members.

Mr Hunn feelingly responded to the remarks of the president, saying that his connection with the Society had; always teen of the most pleasant nature, and whatever he had been able to do as secretary had been purely a labour of love. Speeches of a complimentary nature were also delivered by Messrs Cohen Rev Beck, G. Kendall, Drew, and Chisholm, in which these gentlemen passed many eulogumns upon Mr Hunn as a musician and a secretary, and deeply regretted his departure from the district.

We understand that Mr Hunn's departure from Palmerston has been delayed until Thursday.
