NEW ZEALAND'S WILLINGNESS TO AID.
Some interesting figures result from an examination of the press references to the formation of the Third and Fourth Contingents. The returns are only approximate, but are sufficient to give a good idea of the enthusiasm which has prevailed among the young men of the colony, and the public generally, in connection with the " More Men" movement. The following are the number of men who have voluuteered in each district (so far as can be learned from telegraphed reports) and the number chosen :— Offered, Chosen. Auckland 3C3 60 Wanganui, etc. 300 50 Poverty Bay 10 10 Hawkes Bay 135 40 Wellington 400 62 «. Westport, etc. 20 10 . Canterbiity 4C.1 106 Otago-Southland 340 106 Totals 1905 444 So far as is known at present, the Third and Fourth Contingents will number from 220 to 250 officers and men each. It may be fairly claimed that only one-fifth of the men who , have offered to go to the front have | been chosen for service.—Post.
