A Whole Family Insane.
+ f Per s.s. Te Anau at the Bluff.) Melbourne, April 29, A singular case was brought under notice yesterday at Carlton. In the course of the afternoon the local police '■. arrested four members of one family, v Phillip Ryan, aged 65 ; Jane Ryan, his wife, aged 50 ; Mare-aret Ann Ryan, o their eldest daughter, aged 22 ; and ;.- Elizabeth Agnea Ryan, the youngest, aged 11 ; all of whom were alleged to be I insane and unfit to be at large. They were taken from their home m a cab, acd conveyed to the city watch-house. The minds of the Ryans appear^o have been unhinged by religions mania. Mrs Ryan was very violent, and resisted the police when they called at her house to convey, her to the lock-up, . and she had to be brought from her home by force. She and her daughter talked vyildly and somewhat incoherently about their b«insr "God's own people." The Police Magistrate ordered the four demented persons to be taken and detainod m the >Yarra Bend Asylum.
