A. Barrister Charged with Embezzlement
(united pbess association ) Wellington, Tuesday.
At the Resident Magistrate's Court this afternoon Edward Shaw, a wellknown solicitor and barrister, was charged that he did on the 15th November, 1884, at Wellington, having been entrusted by one Alexander McMinn, as an attorne}* or other agent, with a valuable security, to wit a cheque or order drawn by one Alexander McMinn on the Union Bank of Australia, Palmerston North, for the sum of £83 2s 2d, bearing date the 11th df November, 1884, and payable to bearer for a special purpose, without anv authority to negotiate, transfer, or pledge the same, did in violation of good faith, and contrary to the object . or purpose for which such valuable, security was entrusted him. unlawfully negotiate, transfer, or pledge and convert to his own use or benefit of such valuable security or the proceeds of the same. Onlj formal evidence was taken, and as the prosecutor was absent the case was adjourned until i<'riday afternoon.
