The Fire m Hawke's Bay.

(UNITKD PRKSS ASSOCIATION.) Makatoku, Saturday. The latest news from tlio bush shows that the tires are still spreading. This afternoon McKenzie's large mill, near Danevirlce, is reported as m imminent danger, and only a : change of wind can save it. If the wind, which is now light, increases, as it threatens, it is almost absolutely certain that all the remainder of the township of Makatoku, Onnoud- , ville, Norseiwood, and I'apatu must go. Thure is widespread distress, which the Ch iritible Aid Board is endeavoring to relieve temporarily. Subscription lists havo been opened to further assist the more dosnrving cases. Later. The bush fires at Makatoku and Norsewood are still spreading at an alarming rate. Mr Bullance determined to visit the scene to ascertain what could be donefor the help of those who have suffered. Accordingly this morninc" he went over the settlement at Makotoku, and arranged with the Chairman of the Town Board of Makotoku and Orinondville for the formation of a Belief Committee. The heavy rain which fell this morning has stopped the iininudiate spread of the fire, and it is hoped prevented further danger. The loss suf fered! by the settlers from the destruction of tHe houses, crops, fencing, &c, is very " distressing, many of them* having escaped with barely their' clothes.
