ENGLAND AND HER DEPENDENCIES.
The Acting Colonial Secretary of New South Wales has received a letter from an old colonist, who is still largely connected with the commercial interest of the colony, and who, speaking of the action of New Smith Wales m despatching the contingent to the Soudan says:-— " You have formed by your spontaneous and national feeling a fed- 1 | eral league. • It is hardly possible for you to conceive at a distance the miraculous change that you have worked during the last few weeks m the interests of all classes of the community -with regard to the Australian colonies, and the especial favor with which our grand colony of New South Wales is looked upon. As to the expense incurred, if you have any amongst you who are grumbling at it, be assured that they have never made a greater mistake, as whatever the expenditure may be it will, m my opinion, be made up a thousandfold m the increased favor with which your next New South Wales loan will be received by the British public.' 1
