(united press association.) Auckland, Nov. 29. The Hon. Mr Swainson, the first Attorney-General of the colony, is dangerously ill. Some time ago, Mr McAith'ur, the principal of the Training College, (failed, and the Board of Education gave him six months notice yesterday. A motion has now been carried rescinding a previous resolution asking Mr McArthur to retain his position. Chkistchtjrch, Nov. 30. The members of the Midland Cricket Club have decided to erect a memorial cross over the grave of late captain, Mr George Watson. They will also start a subscription for his -widow and family, who are somewhat straitened m circumstances, Timarti, Nov. 30. At the second annual meeting of the South Canterbury Freezing and Refrigerating Company yesterday, the report of the directors was unanimously adopted, containing a recommendation that the building and plant for freezing be erected without further delay. It is probable that orders for machinery will be cabled home. The company have a site of 61 acres near town, fronting on the railway and on the sea, and have put down a well of 63 feet, yielding a, tested supply of 120,000 gallons per day. 3292 shares of £5 each have been taken up.
