INTERVIEW ON LOCAL MATTERS.

Mr Snelson returned from Wellington last night, and his trip was attended with moderately successful results m reference to the various matters which engaged his attention down there. With regard to the College Reserves Bill, he does not expect that it will be passed by the Lower House, but members of the Upper House were inclined to assume a rather dictatorial and autocratic 'demeanour when approached'on tne subject. In reference to Section 443,- Mr Fowler will receive i? 440 of the sum re r funded by the Government thereon*. With regard to the transfer of the gravel reserve section m; Rangitikeistreet, that matter was satisfactorily arranged. A promise has also been exacted that the po^er to deal with sections between Coleman. Place and Cuba-street will be included m the Special Powers Bill. Mr Snelson devoted all his time-in Wellington' to interview members and officials, with a view to effect the satisfactory adjustment of the various public matters which were entrusted to him ; and, all things co^r sidered, he maybe congratulated on the success attained. He met with opposition m several directions, but m the end managed to get things placed on a'fairly satisfactory footing. He will probably have to make another visit before the session ends, . m order to afford Mr Macarthur further information on the several local matters which our member is interesting himself* m bringrag to a satisfactory result. Ulr Snelson had a very difficult and arduous public duty to perform, and had to bring to bear considerable tact and perseverance, together with special powers of persuasion, and a conciliatory demeanour, m order to effect the'various purposes he had m view m the public interest.
