Police Changes.
To-day telegrams were sent to Mr Walter Johnston, M. H. R. , and. to the Minister of Justice, onent the impending removal of Cjnstable Gillespie, iv reference to which public feeling is much exercised. An official inquiry into certain matters iv connection therewith is likely to take place, the result of which is looked forward to with considerable interest. It is rumoured that a certain report, damaging to the constable, the hotelkeepers, and the whole community has been sent to headquarters by a certain resident, and naturally the public are most indignant at the false and groundless representations that have been made. The origin of the report is alleged to be private aalice. A very full, investigation is almost certain to take place, when some rather strange disclosures will probably come to the surface. We reserve further comments m the meantime. from Manawatu Standard, May 3, 1884.J
