The Feilding Star reports the following :— On Tuesday night last a man named William Frecklington, Jun., when riding home to Sandon after the election, was thrown from his horse and seriously injured. He wbb brought m to Hastie's Feilding Hotel, and Dr Johnston was called m. Peritonitis surpervened, which resulted m his death early yesterday afternoon. He leaves a wife and family to mourn his untimely end. The s.B. Jane Douglas will leave Foxon for Wellington, circumstances permitting, on Saturday at 10 p.m. Jewel has been scratched for the Melbourne Cup. The following are the advertised I butchers' prices m Patea :—Cash on the block, 20 per cent. ; on or before the 10th of following month, 15 per cent ; on or before the 20th, 10 per cent. Iv Palmerston the prices charged are the same for cash as for long time. An address to the electors will be found elsewhere. Further additions have been made to the catalogue of Messrs Stevens and Gorton's Feilding sale. Last night the temparature was probably the coldest during the present winter, and tbis morning every pool had a fairly thieve coating of ice. In the higher elevations such as Tahoraite and Makotoku the cold must have' been intense, and also m the South Island. The entertainment at the Wesleyan schpolhouss passed off most successfully. Some 60 persons were present, aud having partaken of an excellent tea indulged, m various games interspersed with songs, duetts, &c, for a couple of hours. One aud all seemed to enjoy themselves, and a very social and pleasant entertainment was brought to a close by the President giving a short address, full of humour as well as sound advice. The official declaration of the poll will be made to-morrow at 2 p.m. m the Town Hall. There are rumours current that one or two of the seats m the Wellington district are likely lo be further contested before an Election Court on the ground of the result having been determined by use of corrupt practices. There will be a special meeting ipf the Road Board at 11 o'clock to-morow. Mr Izard demanded a scrutiny of the votes recorded at the Foxton election, and the official investigation is taking place to-day. We hear there were some glaring cases of intimidation practised at the Rangitikei election, which should not be allowed to pass uninvestigated.
