He defended the action ofjj the Government at great length, and j I maintained that (he Government; i would quit office with credit if they; had to quit it. . I Sir George Grey replied. He ; moved the omission of all bub the purely formal parts of the Address. Mr Oliver and Mr McLean also: spoke prior to the .5 o'clock adjourn-! ment, . At the,, evening . sitting Mr , Bryce; said the Address En Reply was not' yet carried but when it was, and presented, Ministers would ask. the: House for a short adjournment to consider their position. . v They : were! acting quite constitutionally and would do so to, the end.- . Mr Sutton asked leave to withdraw his amendment, but it was refused;on the voices, and then rejected, on a division of 67 to 7. Dr Newmans motion that an Address m Reply r be prcpaied was then agreed to, Messrs Shep.phercl, De Latabpiir, O'Callaghan, and ; Lcvestham, were appointed -a; .committee to prepare the Address. On bringing up their report the Address was adopted and the House rose at 12.35.
