School Committee.

The following- reports were read at the meeting of the above committee hold on Monday : — Visiting Committee's Report Tour committee have to report that the month y visitation has been made to the schools. In the Terrace bud school, Mrs Harvey is going on with her old appliances quite inadequate for the work. The children are neat and clean, and the room as clean as it could We at the close of a clay's work. The average for the month has been about a hundted. Miss As'uhury has begun work as pupil teacher. For the central school the work is going on as usual. The attendance is low considering the number on the roll, m one class 25 wore present out of 42, m another 20 out of 28. The piping from the boys urinal is stopped and the overflow moot offensive. A class is still taught m the lobby. Something should be done to pub a stoj> to this ; with door and windows open, the atmosphere was thick. Head Master's ReportThe school has been opened for 38 half-days and the average attendance has been 227-5. During that 27 scholars have been admitted and 13 have left. The average roll has been 321*75. I would agaiu draw the attention of the bad state of the boys' urinal, and request that si.me steps he taken immediately to alter it. It is with great regret that I have to uotioe the retirement of the two as sistant niistres.stvs, .Miss Blair and Miss Mackin. The former having been succi-ssf'.il m obtaining a more lucrative appointment m New Plymouth, and the latter from continuous ill health. I am afraid it will be difficult to again obtain such zealous and efficient assistant-*. As there will be the midwinters holidays at the'end of this month an opportunity will be afforded to fill up the vacancies without loss of time m school.
