Incendiarism at Invercargilh

(UNITED PRE« 3 ASSOCIATION/) Invercargill, May 12. Three attempts to fire buildings m the town have been made withia the last three days. The culprit m the case of the South Public School is said to have been a hoy of niue years of.age, who had been told that he would get holidays if the school was burnt. It is said that the lad went under the building and put a match to some rubbish. He was severely chastised to-day. The second case was that of the Presbyterian Mission Hall at Eiist In vercargill whioh was found on (ire to-day, The flames were seen between the lining and the wall. A hole had been cut with a knife through the weatherboards, and it is supposed the boy had dropped a match m there. The fire was entinguished without much damage being occasioned. To-niwht another attempt wa* made to fire the [.'remises of Mr Ashley, a carpenter, residing m Donstreet. A. quantity of material had been fired. The door was burned half-way up, and a quantity of Baltic timber stacked adjoining was badly charred. Two men passing along at the time got some water and extinguished the fire, which otherwise would speedily have oonsumed the block, and there was no water oa ia the street.
