THE POLITICAL POSITION.
Commenting on the political position;, the Auckland Star says :-— " We are not by any means sure that the Govern inent will bo so hard pressed as some of our'con temporaries seem to e,xpect. There is a too eager wish manifested by a section of the opponents of the Ministry for the formation of a Cabinet m Canterbury -Otago local interests, especially with respect to railway construction and management. Now, whatever else may be alleged against the present Government, they have not been a Ministerial combination devoted to the interests; of one island. We believe they, have endeavored to deal out justice between the two islands — as far as the constant pressure used by the Southern vote would let them. Our members will have to be exeedingly cartful lest : they deliver, thmnselves and their constituencies into the hands of the Philistines."
