He arrived in' the colony in 1853 r , being l 'attached ■ to the Imperial j Commissariat Department. On his retirement he entered the colonial service. In 1867 jhe held several posts under the Provincial Government of Ha w'ke's Bay, antt i'oc many years was Commissioned of Crown Lands. l He was fornrerly a resident of ; Wanganni, and a •Botfough reserve is ! stilh known as 11 Ty lee's Flat" 'which dosignation l it will probably always 4vtain.
