PALMERSTON SCHOOL COMMITTEE.
• The usual monthly meeting of the i above 1 Committee was held at the school-house last evening. Present— Messrs .Leary, George, Stewart, EusiJell,. Hawkins, Woodroofe, and Eev. A. M. Wright. The minutes of last meeting with special meeting were read and confirmed. ; The Chairman slated that Miss Keeble had been appointed to tlio position of pupil . teacher, ..-.;.;.■• f ' Ec Terrace End school, the Chairman stated that the Board agreed to open a school m Deards' Hall, and appointed ]&rs Harvey to be mistress. : Proposed by Mr Woodroofe, seconded by Mr Enssell— " That the arrangement made for opening the school m Deards' Hall under Mrs Harvey be confirmed, but the Committee request the Board to purchase the furniture, &c , offered by Mrs Harvey as a loan." Carried. Proposed l>y Mr Eusscll, seconded by Mr George— .*« That a Subcommittee consisting of Messrs Leary, Woodroofe, and Wright, make all arrangements for the opening of the school at Terrace End." Carried. The election of Board Members was then proceeded with. Proposed by Mr Wright, and seconded by Mr Hawkins — " That this Committee vote for Messrs Watt and Greenwood to the vacant places m the Board of Education, Mr Eussell entered his dissent. The following report was then read: — The Cttairman State School Comrviitfee. n ■ . ; Sir,— l have the hononr to forward the following report, m accordance with request of Committee. During the pasjfc month 31 children have been admitted and 28 have left; - ' Theaverage roll number forthe past month has been 435, and the average daily attendance 319 9. : ' Tonr Visiting Committee- paid their monthly visit to the school, and T linpe their suggestions re girls' tank and large stones may be attended to.---1 have to request that-- yoti'r Secretary will procure from the Board, who supplies them on application, the following maps, one each of Europe* Asia, Africa, America, Oceanica, and New Zealand. Moist of the present nlaps have been m use for the last 7or 8 years, and are the; worse for wear. Until this year gedgraphy has only required to be taught m two rooms, now it is taught ie four rooms, and consequently more than one set ot maps is required. 1 should recommend Philips' series. Miss Ev Keeblo commenced duty today. The Eoman Catholic School opened to-day, and has caused the Retirement from this school of nearly 40 children/ who are not Included m the above return.
