In the Legislative AsSerhbly to-night ' the Government -announced that the taxation proposals made by the Treasurer m his Budget Statement had been ■ withdrawn-' except m so far as increased duty on tobacco is concerned. The Government* propose to meet the expected deficiency iir the revenue by retrenchment to the extent of three quarters of a million sterling. In addition to this they believe that the customs revenue will show au increase of £170,000 during the year. '
