Admiral Hewitt, who has recently been appointed to the command of Souakim, has refuvsed permission to the marines of the French and Italian gunboats to land there. Sir Henry Bartle Frere is m a very critical state of health. A welding party, consisting of thirty persons, have been drowned m the river Thesis m Hungary. In consequence of the critical state of affairs m the Soudan the English Government arc preparing for large shipments of ammunition to E^ypt. Reports have been received from Colonel Gordon, m which he states that there is a quieting appearance throughout the country which he traversed. The Liberal members are ui'ging the Cabinet to use energetic measures with respect to the Egyptian policy.
