FORGERIES IN WELLINGTON.
(/ i,!;(Bt TBLKOKAPHJ t, \f Special to Standard. J Wellington, This Day. There are rumors of extensive forgeries of promissory notes by a wellknown commission agent here. The police are unable to obtain any substantial information. It is believed a subscription, is being raised to assist the wife and. family to leave Wellington. .The parties whose names have been, forged on promissory notes refuse tp take criminal action. Tt is rproimtile tbe police will compel them $o do so. At the R. M. Court. this morning tha case E, W. Jeffend v. Phillip King•combe Watty, was called. There was nox; appearance of either plaintiff or •defendant. The charge was for obtaining^: promissory note for £25 and £3 m cinoney with intent io defraud. The Magistrate ordered a warrant to be issued and: the police to make enquiries if the charge was a criminal one.
