—— — ♦ All the officers on the New Zealand railways are shortly to be dressed m uniform. This will be a great convenience to the travelling public. •It is not known publicly aff to what will bethe colour and facings of the several unifoi ms, but it is confidently asserted that that of the General Manager for New Zealand Railways will be startling m its magnificence and beauty. It is not anticipated t.hat he will wear sidearms, but gold spurs will be permitted. The District Manager' will be also arrayed iv a very, captivating and aweinspiring " rig," which his portly and commanding presence will ircll become. Some of the stationmasters are stifi^ stuo.kup, and disobliging now, and what they will be wh>n m full uniform, goodness only knows. The public will then have to approach, them with a low salaam, and remain uncovered m their august presence. We wonder is a long tobacco pipe to be part of the new rig.. Tho carters and hotel porters will stand, afar off, and gaze m silent admiration* at tho gorgeously-dressed official, whose* word none will dare to question. The effect on the Native mind should b l 8 very striking, and he will be a bj&l aboriginal who will dare to giye cheet or "look black*' when the new unSU forms are donned. . . . ,'
