DUMMYISM IN OTAGO.
Official Inquirv. tBY TELKOKAPH; (united press association.) Dunedin, January 31. The Land Board resumed the dumanyism inquiry to-day, taking the Silver Peak case first. There was a scene during Borthwick's examination. The witness refused to produce his will or say to whom he ha4 wiljed his land. Mr Stout moved two motions to sue for penalties for not answering tha Board's questions, but both motions were lost oa the casting vote of the
Chief Commissioner. The witness swore positively that it had not beer, willed to Orbell, but, though advised by, his counsel to answer, he flatly re : .fused to do so. : t -j The cases; -concluded, and ! taking of evidence will. he continued "next. Thursday. In addition to the scene between Messrs Stout and Denj niston. in the morning, in which one accused the other of impertinence, another took place in the afternoon between Mr Orbell, one of the witnesses, and Mr Duncan, a member of the Board. M> Orbell asserted that Mr Duncan had offered him £500 to retire from the bidding for one ol the sections, regarding which evidence Mr Duncan ..replied "Itis a downright lie." -
