In consequence of a general outcry raised by * the Europeans m India against the provisions of Jlbert's Criminal Jurisdiction Bill, subjecting Europeans m country districts to the jurisdiction of the Native magistrates, the Governor-General of India has agreed to a compromise, and it has been decided that Europeans who may be tried before Native Magistrates shall be entitled to a jury m which the countrymen of .the accused are m the majority.
