FLOODED RIVERS.
[Woodville Examiner. J
On Saturday last the rivers m this district were perhaps higher than they have been known for some years. At half-past seven m the morning, the river at the Gorge Bridge registered twentyone feet; and steadily rose throughout the 1 day, nntil at half-past four m the afternoon it registered thirty-feet, with an exceedingly atrong current. Huge trees and driftwood were continually going down the stream, which at the height ot the flood rendered it unsate even for the boat at the lower ferr/ to attempt a crossing, the punt, of course being outof the question, consequently all traffic was entirely suspended. The mail coaches arrived m due time m the mowing, on either side of the river, and thereapective drivers crossed, with their mails m the hqa>-i*fc this tjme the boat cauß get over, even though it . wa* no,t exactly safe. After the mails were crossed traffic was considered unsafe, and consequently. suspended. At the upper ferry, the 'water 1 was over the
road for some chains, and did a Ktth damage washing away a quantity of the metal. AH the creeks on this 1 road were also much swollen, and acres of land m the district were submerged.
