An Elopement FrusTRATED.
The Wairarapa Star thus records an attempted elopement: — Constabie'Fieming, while going his' rounds j received intimation that a full-bearded bushman, of iron-grey complexion, and on the riper side of 50; lhad taken up his residence during the night m a certain boarding house with the daughter, of a Miki Miki farmer, with whom he intended to elope out of the colony. Shortly aftpr wards he had tbe:pleasure, of noticing the father of the i girl (who is still about twelve months from sweet seventeen) with his head twisting anxiously and as rapidly, as a weather vane. "Are you looking for -.your daughter?" asked the constable. " That I am," said the agitated \ " parent ." colouring ii p. "J hen go down there, and you will find her m the embraces of a man that should be ncr grandfather,'' said the other pointing to the boarding-house. : x The Ihearty than 1 ; s that followed,, and tbe ,wildj look of joy as the farmer, put spurs to his horse wa« something that the constable says . he will neyer forget,. It is needless to say that thp elopement- was frustrated.
