-■•'"'■■ [Rangora Standard.] In reply to a question, the Govern* ment have stated that they will not divert any of the money voted for immigration towards works for providing work for the unemployed. It seems a strange thing that money should be voted for immigration at all, while people already m the country cannot find work. If the influx of immigrants caused a proportionate increase m our exports it would not matter, but the reverse is the case. Before the immigration policy commenced our exports were over £19 per head of the population. They have been dropping ever mnce that policy set m, and are now down to £12 per head. With numbers of men unemployed, with falling exports, and with continued free or assisted immigration, the only outcome can be pauperism for the weaker mem* bers of society, and a wholesale exodus of tbpse wjthjsufficient funds to carry them away,
