(united press association. ) Inveroakgill, September 6. At the Supreme Court to day the only case of interest was that of Hornsby, of the Lake County Press, v. Warren, of the Lake Wakatipu Mail, for a libel contained m an extract from the Arrowtown correspondent on the occasion of a lecture by the plaintiff on Ireland. The jury gave a verdict for €50, the claim having been for £1000. The Judge reserved -law points raised by denfendants for nonsuit. Dunedin, September 6. Although the works for the- unemployed at Mullochy Gully have been open for a' fortnight, only seven men' have, so far, sought "work there. ,Noue,of those who took a prominent part m the agitation held recently have 'availed themselves of the opportunity. Oamaru, September 6. The heavy rain which has been failing for the last day br-Otwo ; Chas partially ceased, damage by the flood has been done m the district, but slips oc* curred on the south railway line, by which tbe north express was detained two or three hours this morning. The evening train came-through to time. A gold-prospecting /company, with 1200 shares, bf-£l each, to be called the Moa Creek Cdm'paliy, "lifis been formed at Rangiora to test a reel recently discovered by McPherson and Revell. . A few specimens from the reef had, it was stated at the meeting, been tested with very satisfactory results. The Industrial Exhibition Comittee have received application for space* re« presenting 4950 equate feet, and* inquiries are coming so fast that it lis doubtful whether the proposed buildings will give sufficient room. T The promises of pictures and works of art are n&psb encouraging. - \ The south-west storm , which commenced last night) still continues wim unabated fury. An immense quantity of rain fell during the night. The streets are flooded m many places, the roadway and footpaths m some parts being oom« pletely submerged. A fire broke oulTin a stable, barn; cowshed belonging to Mr Moorhouse this evening* A horse, carriage, and some cow 3 were got out of the building, which was insured m the Standard office for £20. The fire is supposed to be the work of an incendiary.
