The Craft.
While upon the subject, I mar state that a Btrikinjr illustration of the prac tical benefits of Freemasonry was 6howu during the meeting on Wednesday evening. In tb> "ordinary" Fense of the term, a Masonic Lode* is not a Benefit Society, members joining it do not expect any pecuniary recompenHe for the outlay they have to make for the privileges they are .introduced to ; but m the " truest" sense of the tdrm it is a Benefit Society, as many thousands of worthy "poor and distressed brethren" have known to their delight and comfort. The case referred to was that of the widow and eieht children of ft deceased brother, William Raich, of the Lodge of, Unanimity, 604 E . C«, Lyttelton, who died of congestion of the longs after a short illness,. leaving bis wife and family totally destitute. The appeal from the deceased's Lodge *v only sent out on May the 28th . On Wednesday evening, our Secretary read ft communication acknowledging a contribution from the Milton Lodge, and stating that the fund had already reached £350, which was banked, and ; that at leas! JLSO more was anticipated. Out of this it is proposed to purchase a dwelling for the. widow and family, and disburse what may be left for their benefit.—Southern Exchange.
