Laws Bill, the first? of Mr Bryce's new clauses to give the Chief Justice power, instead of the Government, to remove restrictions pa alienations, was rejected by 37 to 23, and the following new clauses were withdrawn. A new clause proposed by Mr Swanson being adopted to $he effect that due notice would be gazetted : before any restrictions were removed . .. New clauses proposed by Mr Stevens, to validate bona fide agreements and negotiations now pending, was negatived by 24 to 13. The Bill was then reported as amended. /The Native Committees Bill, West Coast Settlement Reserves Bill, Volun teer Act Amendment Bill, Auckland Hospital Jiesery.es Bill, and Kawhia Township Sate Bill passed through Committee without substantial alteration. ■ • -■■ Progress was made witfc the Qoun#es, Aot Amendment BUI m Committee, $he House rose at 12,46.
