The launch of a torpedo boat', Which ' i has been built for the Victorian Government, took place at Cheswick to-day. The ceremony was performed by the Right Hon. H. C. E. Childers, after whom the boat was named. In the House of Com tnons lust-night Mr Gladstone was questioned as to tt.e intentions of Government regarding -thfc .future of New Guinea. Iv reply, the Pn-mier stated that as the Government refused to ratify the annexation of. that island by Queensland, it was* unnecessary' to aay anything about the future. The Government was satisfied that there was no fear of c'iiim to tbo island being made by any foreign power. ■ , I
