Floods in the Awahuri.

THE BRIDGE INJURED THE APPROACH CARRIED AWAY COMMUNICATION SUSPENDED The heavy rains of the last few days caused a heavy flood in the Awahuri river, and the approach on the Feilding side has succumbed, all traffic being cut off. The Natives state it was the highest flood they have known for years. The body of water is now subsiding, but the bank is crumbling away in large slices. A Native shed which stood near the bank was carried away, and a buggy which stood in it has gone to sea . The cost of reconstruction will probably be a considerable item. It is not long since the approaches on this side were repaired after, a former flood. The second suspension of communication is most unfortunate for the residents and the district generally.
