Fire Brigade.
The adjourned meeting of the above, held at the Commercial Hotel last even* ing, was well attended. Mr Snelson occupied the chair. The Provisional Committee handed m their report which was r«ad and adopted. Promises of subscriptions, amounting to 42 guineas, had been received since last meeting, from residents on the Square, extending from the Commercial Hotel to the Bank of Australasia. This it was expected, would be largely supplemented by subscriptions from other residents not applied to. Mr Waldegrave mentioned having received a communication from the N.Z. Insurance Co. m Wellington offering the Brigade an engine not just complete, but which, with a little outlay, would be found to be of valuable assistance. It was resolved to apply to the Com* oany through Mr Waldegrave expressing the thanks of the meeting for the offer, which would be duly considered. A motion was tabled that the Brigade six aid be formed at once, to be worked 1 Wttn the best appliances under the cir--1 eum^tances. A meeting of the working members of Brigade afterwards met to nominate officers to be elected at next meeting, which will be held on Wednesday next, August Ist, Twenty nameß were handed m. The meeting terminated with a vote of thanks to the Chairman.
