Mr Sheehan moved to strike out all the items for Mount Cook prison considering the Government were trying to establish a central prison for the colony then m defiance of the oft repeated decision of the House' against having a central gaol. Messrs Connolly and Rplletfon saw no euch attempt being made, only a new prison was , wanted' iri Wellington and the Government were trying to build it on most approved principles by prison labor. They, were also building one m Auckland, -and would soon be doing bo m Dunedin. Mr Bracken and others protested against the prisoners being remove^ from other gao's to Wellngton. Mr Hutchison said Wellington ce.r« tainly did not want them or a central prison. .'.//.; Mr Sheehan's amendment was lost by 22 to ]3, atd the .total vote for prisons less the £100 bouse allowance, was passed. . The total class of Justice was also passed at 2.20, and progress was re* ported whef the House rose.
