Manawatu Standard (PULISHED DAILY.) Suivant La verzte. TUESDAY, JULY 17, 1883. A FIRE BRIGADE.
Therb now serins reasonafre probability of the question, of a Fire Brigad* for Palmer-ton being taken up m earnest . By advertisement elsewhere it will bt> Been that a meeting: of persons interested is convened for to-morrow evening, at tbe Commerciil Hotel, to discuss the question, it is satisfactory to notice thafc the influential portion of the community have taken the matter m hand, and we sincerely hope that the inaugural step now taken win lead on to successful results. There is no occasion to enlarge upon the necessity for a Fire Brigade, for that is never disputed or denied. The Borough Council having offered io contribute towards the expenses contingent upon the. establishment of a Brigade, all that is wanted is for the people themselves to show that they are willing to co-opernte m what must prove an invaluable institution m the place. We hope the result of the meeting will be as satisfactory as its most enthusiastic promoters could de sire or anticipate, and we feel sura that *,i sach an irapoi tanfc matter the community will not &how itself apathetic, Juke«>warm. nr iil?h«-«r.
