[Wellington Paper.] Two tei rible-looking objects— the one :, fearfully suggestive of sickness and -want of food, and the otner of a wasted life occasioned by drink — appeared before the Justices sitting at the Besi dent Magistrate's Court yesterday j one being a woman who possesses a very long* defaulter's sheet on the score of drunkenness, and whois known as Ann Kußsell; She apparently was paralysed from a prolonged drinking bout ; and m default of paying a fine of 40s, was relegated to her old quarters for a week, by which time it is to be hoped she will .have mended her behaviour and her The second prisoner was a 'pale, emaciated young fellow, whose ragged clothes Bcarcely beld together, He gave the name of William Fitzjnmes /^Taine, and informed the Bench that his father was welUknown at Taranaki. He had sought food and shelter from the police on the previous night, and .was now charged with being a vagrant. Browne gave the young ' 3nan a character for honesty, at any rate ; and submitted that a remand to gaol for a few days would be a merciful act, and meanwhile the police would communicate with the man's friends. The remand was granted.
