Auckland, July 14, At a meeting of the Board of Gtoverlors of Auckland College and Grammar to discuss a letter from the Minister of Education, asking if they would concur m the introduction of a BUI empowering them to grant free tution to pupils from Primary schools, objection was taken to the legality of ihe meeting, owing to an irregularity m convening it, The Chairman (Judge Fenton) remarked if such technical difficulties were to prevail, the sooner the Board abdicated its functions the better. Colonel Eanltain said that fchey were going the right way to bring the Board into disrepute. The meeting then broke up, and another was convened for Wednesday. Gisborne, July 14. Criminal informations for libel at the suit of Mr W. L Bees hare been laid against Kenneth Kerr, the proprietor of Pacts, and Charles Webb, the proprie* tor of the Poverty Bay Standard. The article complained of was published m Friday's issue of Facts, published by Webb, and ..relates to the Land Company's doings. Defendant is summon sed to appear before the Resident Magistrate on Monday morning. Christchurch, July 15. At the annual meeting of the Farmers' Co-operative Association, yes* terday, a dividend of 7 per cent, was declared.
