From the sixth annual teport of the Minister of Education, just presented to Parliament, it appears that the total working average daily attendance of -choitira (hroughoot the colony for th<" fourth qOHrw of lust year was 35.909 msles, and 32.379 females— 6B,2Bß . The total working average for the whole year was 66,145, showing an increase of 2410 during the year. The " working average " yearly increase during the past five years has been 5061. The The number belonging to the schools »t the bpgintiing of the year was 76.309, an«i at the end of the yea- 87,179 The returns for the yp.ar show a much smaller annual increase m the school attendance than those for any of the first three years after the Act came into operation.
