The Sunderland DISASTER.
The new lightt thrown on the cause of the Sunderland disaster states that the catastrophe is attributed to the fact that V>rizeß.wefe offered to the children first downstairs after the performance, and' to the doorkeeper doping the door m order to check the rush. It is difficult to believe tbat so insane a proposal as that here mentioned actually existed. To offer inducements for a helter-skelter rush out of a crowded building is to invite disaster. Anyone possessed of the ftmallest amount of common sense could have foretold what was like'y to happen from setting several hundred children to run a break- neck race down a flight of narrow gallery steps. It was an astonishing piece of criminal folly, and the precious perpetrator of it de* serves tbe severest punishment. The inquest on the bodies of the victims has been adjourned.
